Things You Should Know Before Visiting St Helena for Holiday

If you enjoy beautiful islands, St Helena should be on your bucket list. It was known once as one of the world’s most remote islands, tropical and volcanic, and unlike anywhere else you’ve visited. However, there are few things that you should know when it comes to visiting St Helena for spending your vacation.

So, are you ready to know a few interesting things? If yes, then it is time to scroll your screen a bit.

Communication

The communication cost is a bit more expensive in St Helena. The Island’s internet data costs are higher than most. British standard telephone systems with international direct dialing are installed in residential homes. So, you have to keep this in mind when you are searching for St Helena Accommodation.

Currencies

When it comes to currency, then you have to be a bit extra sure if you want to save yourself from trouble. Most of the businesses accept St Helena and British pounds, and a few accept US dollars but always remember only a few accept it. If you want to spend your time without any stress or trouble, then you should take British sterling with you but you will be mostly given change back in St Helena currency.

If you are a visitor, then you can go to the bank and get your currency converted into accepted currency.

Driving Instruction

On St Helena roads, there are many road curtsies; typically, the driver driving downhill gives way to oncoming traffic. Miles per hour, road signs are displayed. The maximum speed limit is 30 miles per hour, and there are strict drink-driving laws in place.

Car rental companies can be found here if you want to rent or hire a car in St Helena. There is one more thing, and that is to drive on the left-hand side.

Transportation

There are two best options for traveling: rental cars or taxis. Taxis are available at every corner, or you can go with renting out the car. Although if you are thinking of rental cars, then there are two things required. The first thing is identity proof and a driving license. If you have both these things, then you can get the rental car.

Shopping

Monday through Saturday, most shops are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Wednesdays, when they are open until 1 p.m. On Saturdays, most shops in Jamestown close at 1 p.m. but reopen on Saturday evenings. On Wednesdays and Saturdays, some country stores remain open, but they usually close at 17.00. In some of the country shops, you will find that the times vary.

If you are a big fan of drinking fresh milk, you might be in discomfort because you won’t get fresh milk on the Island, but you can always go with the alternative. There is preserved milk that has a long life. So, you can go with this option.

Medical Services

The next thing on the list that you should know about is the medical facilities; here on the Island, you can have access to government hospitals. So, in case you think you have to visit a doctor, you can surely go there.

Travel Insurance

It is mandatory for all the visitors. Travel and medical insurance are checked by the higher authority on your arrival. So, better be ready with it beforehand to avoid any trouble in your stay.
